Cabbies lose high court battle with Uber
I don't know where I stand on this, because I use both. Issue is, while an Icon of black cabs are expensive.

I get an Uber home sometimes from the London Stadium to Bromley for around £15. A black cab would probably cost £30/£40.

Thoughts?

Gank, West Ham mentioned. Back in your box.

When you actually had to pick up the phone and order one!

"10 minutes mate" - then 20 minutes later you had to call back to find out where the cunt was.

Ive used the Hail app in London and most of the time its a similar price to uber. I got a black cab the same way without the app and it was 100% more than when I went via the hail app.

Re: Cabbies lose high court battle with Uber

i used to work in North London for a Local Authority.
One afternoon we get a phone call from somebody about the cab rank outside Wood Green Station.

there were around 10 cabs parked up with no drivers in them.

Rather than pay for parking like the rest of us, (multi storey car park less than 2 mins walk,) they had parked their cabs on the rank and all fucked off to a funeral.
only returning around 3 hours later, highly offended that anyone would question it.

My mate from school had an uncle who drove a black cab. He was one of the biggest wankers I've ever met.

Those cunts have been riding the gravy train for too long. They refused to adapt to the changing times and now their fucked.

Fuck me sideways, hold the front page !!!!!

Dwight, so they're working 20 hours a week now rather than 10. Must be wreaking havoc on their handicap on the golf course.

Re: Cabbies lose high court battle with Uber
I know quite a few black cabbies (friends & family) and they are working almost double the hours a cabbie would've done 20 years to earn anywhere near the same money.
I even know a couple that have gone back on the tools working as plasterers and chippys because it's less stress.

Dying trade, like many others that have been unable to adapt quickly enough in the face of technology and the online marketplace. Sign of the times, although many had a good run tbf and as said will become extinct once driverless vehicles take over in a few years. Van, lorry, chauffeurs and train drivers to follow....

Will be able to get a robot to much anything soon, fix up the house, even service the mrs.

Exactly, Uber is not the only app based taxi service, and as time goes by they will be joined by even more competitors using the same technology. Lyft, who rival Uber in the US, are also looking at expanding over here for instance having already set up a service in Germany last month.

It's why I don't buy into this theory about Uber suddenly ramping up their prices if the black cabbies become extinct.

The market is just moving with the times. As someone else said driverless vehicles will soon make most driving based jobs obsolete anyway.

Re: Cabbies lose high court battle with Uber
Uber has hurt the black cab industry but absolutely mullered the minicabs.... Uber like AirB&B and Amazon just make a handful of people billionaires while destroying long established businesses by avoiding paying taxes and contributing to next to nothing for society.... Which l find really weird on here the lefties loving and bigging up Uber!

Re: Cabbies lose high court battle with Uber
There's another app out there that does the same as uber called viavan who also surge price so the monopoly theory doesnt stack up anymore. Black taxis have loads of advantages over phv's - bus lane usage, no congestion or ulez charges, can drop off on red routes. The drivers should focus on that rather than moaning that their way of life is being eradicated. Whingey cunts

I use both, I've already said that.

Depends on where I am and the journey I make.
